I started Aurora in 2017 as a solo midwife with a vision of providing deeply respectful and loving care to families choosing home birth. I loved and worked hard for my clients, and I was also stretched in ways that weren't sustainable, for me or for them. When I was tired, hard things in my own life were happening, or I was juggling too many roles at once, it couldn’t help but affect my capacity.
Knowing I couldn’t continue forward alone, I began to build a team model rooted in the foundational values that matter most to me: respect, safety, honest communication, and healthy boundaries. I have been grateful to find midwives with shared values and vision who fully pour their hearts into caring for our clients. With two to three midwives who know you well, you get more attention and more skills, not less. As a team we can provide a depth of care for clients in a way that I never could on my own.
Midwifery is work that is demanding physically, emotionally, and mentally. I care deeply about midwifery being sustainable work. We are each called to this work, but if we aren’t well supported in it, we burn out quickly. I’m grateful to be able to create jobs that support and sustain us and our own families while prioritizing outstanding care for our clients.
