Midwifery that sustains you
as much as it serves them.
We built Aurora to solve a problem we lived through. If you're ready to practice without burning out, on a team that actually has your back, keep reading.
WHO WE WELCOME
Find yourself here.
Aurora is home to more than midwives. We're building an integrative team of birth and postpartum professionals who share our values and want to practice alongside people who take this work and each other seriously.

A Call Schedule
Built collaboratively 6–8 weeks in advance, with your capacity honored. Time off call is respected.
Support System
You are not the only eyes on a client. Responsibility is shared, and collaboration is expected, creating a safety net for the whole team.
Established Client Base
Join a reputable, trusted practice with consistent client flow in Phoenix and the East Valley.
Integrative Care Team
Work alongside a CNM, naturopathic doctor, and midwives with additional skillsets like somatic processing, body work and herbalism.
Root & Rise Collective
Our clinic home in Mesa is a values-aligned, collaborative space shared with like-minded practitioners in the community.
Systems That Work
Established systems, charting, practice guidelines and client communication processes so you can focus on care, instead of building everything from scratch.
Fair, Transparent Pay
Per diem compensation for call days, clinic days, and postpartum visits.
Student Support Built In
Mentoring students is part of the model, not added on top of it. We believe in supporting and strengthening the future of midwifery in Arizona.
Built out of necessity. Grown into community.
OUR STORY
Aurora was founded in 2017 out of a deep desire to create a safe space for families to be seen and honored during their journeys. For two years, our founder, Alyssa Johns, practiced as a solo midwife, on call around the clock, the way so many Arizona midwives do. She knew there had to be another way to center and support clients without asking midwives to sacrifice their health to deliver their care, so she built it from the ground up. A team model grounded in shared call, shared support, and a genuine commitment to the people doing this sacred work alongside the families they serve.

YEARS IN PRACTICE
PHX
PHOENIX & EAST VALLEY
The culture isn't a talking point. It's a commitment.
CORE VALUES
Our five values are the commitments held by every person on this team. Here's what you're signing up for.
01.
Dependable to the Core
We show up. For our clients, for each other, and for the standards we've set together.
02.
Receptive & Responsive
We listen first. We are open to feedback, new ideas, and perspectives that are not our own.
03.
Boundaried & Balanced
Healthy limits are not weakness. They are what makes this work sustainable and safe for everyone.
04.
We Move with Respect
Every client, every colleague, every birth is met with intention, dignity, and full presence.
05.
Safety First, Ego Last
There is no room for competitive energy here. We rise by lifting each other.
An apprenticeship model built differently.
STUDENT MIDWIFE PROGRAM
Traditional apprenticeships ask students to be available around the clock, unpaid, with little ability to honor life’s realities. We don't believe that's the foundation for a healthy, long career. At Aurora, you train on a real call schedule, get paid for primary assist work, and learn from an entire team.

WORDS OF REFLECTION
In their own words.
"Lovely team, students are well informed, and it's overall such a healthy culture being cultivated. Grounding things in core values means it's easier to keep things principled, and that's amazing."
— MIDWIFE
"I feel valued and we are always improving as a team. When I need support at work, I know I can talk to who I need to."
— MIDWIFE
"Team setting, sharing the client load, the marketing support, this is why I'm here. 100% yes, I see myself staying on this team."
— MIDWIFE
